The Largest Airlines in Europe


Turkish Airline:

Turkish Airlines is the flag carrier of Turkey and is named the Best Airline in Europe at the 2013 World Airline Awards. It operates flights to 237 destinations including 197 international destinations across Europe, Africa, Asia and America. THY is headquartered at the Ataturk Airport in Istanbul and has its secondary hubs at Esenboga International Airport, Antalya International Airport, Sabiha Gokcen International Airport and Adnan Menderes Airport. The airline's fleet includes 222 passenger and 10 cargo aircraft. It is the fourth largest carrier in the world by serving a high number of destinations.

Air Berlin Group:
Air Berlin PLC and Co. Luftverkhers KG is the second largest airline after Lufthansa in Germany. It is headquartered in Charlottenburgh - Wilmersdorf, Berlin and has its hub at Berlin - Tegel Airport and Dusseldorf International Airport. This airline operates flights to around 150 destinations in 40 countries including holiday destinations in the Mediterranean region, the Canary Islands and North Africa. It also serves many intercontinental destinations in the United States, the Caribbean and South East Asia. Air Berlin is the seventh largest airport in Europe by passenger traffic.

Aeroflot:

Aeroflot is the flag carrier of Russia and has its hub at Sheremetyevo International Airport in Moscow, Russia. It is one of the oldest airlines in the world and operates flights to 116 destinations in 52 countries from its home base. Aeroflot has been awarded with the best air carrier in Eastern Europe by the 2013 World Airline Awards. Its fleet consists of 134 Western and modern Russian model aircraft.

SAS Group:

Scandinavian Airlines System Aktiebolag (SAS Group) is based in Sweden and is headquartered at Stockholm Arlanda Airport in Sweden. It is partly owned by the government of Sweden (21.4%), Denmark (14.3%) and Norway (14.3%). The SAS Group serves around 180 destinations in 35 countries across Asia, Europe and North America. The SAS Museum at Oslo Airport, Gardermoen holds collections of Scandinavian Airlines System, AB Aerotransport, Det Danske Luftfartselskab and Det Norske Luftfartselskap.

Alitalia:

Alitalia-Compagnia Aerea Italiana S.p.A is also known as Alitalia and is the flag carrier of Italy. It is headquartered in Fiumicino, Italy and has its hub at Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport, Rome. Alitalia is the largest airline in Italy and is the 19th largest in the world. Catania-Fonatanarossa Airport, Linate Airport, Malpensa Airport and Turin Airport are its focus cities. Alitalia serves 25 domestic destinations and 89 international destinations in 50 countries.
